Closing procedure for an in-ground concrete (gunite) pool

CAUTION:
Since closing an in-ground pool is complicated, we strongly recommend you call on TREVI's specialists for the first year to avoid any errors which could invalidate your damage warranty. A gunite pool can be closed as soon as you stop using it. Since there is no liner to protect and the pool will be emptied in the spring to be washed, it is not necessary to wait. Naturally, esthetics (green water) and safety must also be taken into consideration.

PROCEDURE
Vacuum the pool, ideally in the "DRAIN" position. Place the filter dial on "BACKWASH" and run the pump for 4 minutes. Remove all accessories: thermometer, robot, etc. Remove the ladder. Put petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on the anchor block and on all bolts. Remove the diving board. Never remove the base. Remove the skimmer accessories: basket, vacuum adapter.

DRAINING THE PIPES
There are two ways to evacuate the water from the underground pipes: . If you use a "Shopvac" type vacuum: Place the filter dial on "WINTERIZE" or "CLOSE" and remove the pressure gauge. Use the vacuum to bring the water into the filter aspiration pipe (opening in the skimmer farthest away in the pool). Suck the water into one of the water returns by attaching the vacuum hose in the return and closing the other with a plug. Begin with the water return farthest away from the filter. Repeat the operation with the second water return. For special water returns in spa steps, insert a #10 or #11, black rubber, screw-in plug.

If you use a blower: Use an empty blower and attach the hose to the aspiration pipe (opening in the pool skimmer farthest away). Place the filter dial on "WHIRLPOOL" or "RECIRCULATE". Block one of the water returns with a plug and turn on the filter pump (for about one minute). Then turn on the blower and run it until the water stops coming out of the unplugged return. Then plug the latter and immediately unplug the other return.

WINTERING THE COMPONENTS
Place the filter dial in the "WINTERIZE" or "CLOSE" position. Screw bolts covered with Teflon ribbon into the two water returns as well as the two openings in the skimmer. Place the styrofoam cube especially designed for the purpose in the skimmer.

Remove the pressure gauge, the bottle and filter drain plug. Empty the filter and the pump. Make sure they are empty. Do not replace the drainage plugs. To prevent damage, completely empty the chlorinater of chemical products and water. Rinse. Remove the drainage plugs.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT
Note: to prevent possible damage, make sure that the power is turned off (breaker on "OFF") during the winter. Place a piece of tape over the breaker so no-one will turn it on again.
